I will never speak the words “enjoy every moment”. Because you won’t. There will be moments you wish you could run away. Moments that feel too much. You’ll wonder how you’re going to juggle a toddler and a newborn.

First and most importantly, there is absolutely NO rush to return to sex after birth. It is not a race. The 6 week check up is not the finish line for you needing to be ready. Not at all. The only one who can determine when you are ready, is you.

This is what I wish I knew. Beyond what cot to buy, how to swaddle and where to buy the cutest baby clothes. The stuff I wish I knew has very little to do with the actual baby, and way more to do with ME and how to navigate life after birth.

I think of motherhood in two parts. There’s the mother, and then there’s the job… and fuck me isn’t it relentless.
